Cryptocurrency major Binance has appointed Leigh Travers as its Australia chief executive officer while Singapore’s United Overseas Bank has announced two directors joining its board.
Binance Australia appoints CEO
Binance has appointed Leigh Travers as its Australia chief executive officer (CEO), according to an announcement.
The appointment follows Binance Singapore naming Richard Teng, a former SGX executive and MAS regulator, as its CEO.
Travers is the former CEO and director of Australia-based DigitalX, the world’s first publicly listed blockchain tech firm. Previously, he also served on the board of the country’s blockchain industry body, Blockchain Australia.
“I’ve long been an advocate of the benefits that blockchain technology has to offer society, and it’s a mission of mine to grow the industry over the coming years,” said Travers.
Binance Australia is a digital currency exchange platform that enables Australian customers to easily buy and trade cryptocurrencies using the Australian dollar.
SG’s UOB adds two directors
Singapore’s United Overseas Bank has added Tracey Woonas as an independent director as well as a member of its audit and board risk management committees.
Woon, 65, is currently a director at Singapore Press Holdings, and is a member of the Securities Industry Council and the Listings Advisory Committee of the Singapore Exchange (SGX), the Business Times reported.
Woon, a banking industry veteran in the region, was UBS’ APAC global wealth management vice-chair from 2016 until her retirement in 2020.
Other changes to UOB’s board include the addition of Dinh Ba Thanh and the exit of James Koh, 75, who will step down effective August 31 after nine years as an independent director since 2012.
Dinh is the founder and chief executive of Vietnam’s integrated media entertainment technology group DatVietVAC Group Holdings.
