New Delhi: Auto major Tata Motors on Wednesday reported a growth of 53% in its total domestic sales at 54,190 units in August 2021. The auto major sold 35,420 units in August last year. On a sequential basis, sales were up 4% from 51,981 units in July 2021.
For August 2021, domestic sales in the passenger vehicle segment grew 51% at 28,018 units, which include 26,996 ICE vehicles and 1,022 electric cars.
In the same period last year, the sales were recorded at 18,583 units, including 18,277 unit ICE vehicles and 306 EVs.
Semiconductor shortage continues to impact the auto industry globally. The recent lockdowns in East Asia have worsened the supply situation and hence Tata Motors is forced to moderate production and offtake volumes for the coming months. The situation is fluid and we will continue to work to mitigate the impact of this and aim to meet our customer orders through an agile, multi-pronged approach including close engagement with our extended supply chain partners, procuring chipsets from the open market, using alternative chips and managing our model and trim mix, Tata Motors said in a regulatory filing.
“Specifically, EV sales crossed a crucial threshold of 1000 units this month. The order book is strong and we aim to meet the robust demand to the best of our abilities despite the supply challenges,” it said.
In the commercial vehicle segment, domestic sales of the company were up 55% at 26,172 units in August 2021, as against 16,837 units in August last year.
CV exports for the month under review stood at 3609 units, up from 1,052 units in August 2020.
Overall sales for Tata Motors, including the domestic and international markets stood at 57,995 units in August 2021, compared to 36,505 units in the same month last year.
