Ten days after Hyundai Motor India revealed the sportier ‘N Line’ version of its popular B+ segment hatchback – the i20 – the company has launched the model with introductory pricing that starts from Rs 984,000 (ex-showroom India).

On the outside, the i20 N Line gets differentiating elements such as a red lip on the front bonnet, N Line badges on the grille, red side skirts and diamond-cut alloy wheels. On the inside, there are N Line badges on the gear shifter and seats with red stitching, as well as paddle shifters on the automatic variant. The car benefits from a sportier suspension setup and a peppy exhaust note.

The i20 N Line comes powered by the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 120hp. It comes mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic or Hyundai’s clutchless manual (iMT) transmission. The i20 N Line is available in two trims – N6 and N8. While the N6 (iMT) is priced at Rs 984,000, the N8 (iMT) costs Rs 10.87 lakh and the DCT-equipped N8 costs Rs 11.75 lakh.

Speaking at the product launch, S S Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said, “The i20 N Line will epitomise our strong legacy and DNA into motorsport-inspired styling and everyday excitement for all our customers. The i20 N Line encapsulates a host of enticing technology, engaging interiors, energetic exteriors and enthralling performance.”

He added, “The i20 N Line will be available in 188 Signature Dealerships across India. Additionally, i20 N Line customers will also be facilitated by a personal mobility advisor who will cater to a hassle-free service experience and enable them with advanced facilities, becoming a single point of contact for complete peace of mind and an overall enhanced ownership experience.”

In August, Hyundai sold a total of 46,866 units, which is a marginal 2.3% improvement over the 45,809 units sold in August 2020. Will the i20 N Line, launched just before the festive season opens in  India, give the company the fizz it is seeking in the marketplace?
