Bulk of the company’s vehicle business came from a 44 percent jump in sales for the Jeep brand and a 6 percent rise in sales for Ram brand of vans and trucks.

Total sales in Canada for larger rival General Motors Co rose 0.1 percent to 30,159 vehicles from a year ago.

Detroit-based GM saw Chevrolet sales of 17,633, up 1.3 pct and GMC truck sales rose nearly 2 percent to 9,961.

In the United States, both Detroit-based automakers posted sales gains in new vehicles on the back of strength in the economy. GM posted a 16 percent jump in new vehicle sales while Fiat’s sales rose 14 percent.
