The semiconductor crisis, the main reason why vehicle sales fall in the old continent.
The month of September has once again marked another figure of fall in registrations in Europe. According to the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA), last month there was a decrease of 23.1% of the new vehicle sales compared to the same period of 2020. A total of 718,598 units were sold, the lowest figure in a month of September since 1995.
The crisis caused by the shortage of semiconductors was one of the main causes of this decline. In the main European markets, the two figures of decline have been reached, such as in Italy (-32.7%), Germany (-25.7%), France (-20.5%) or Spain (-15.7% ).
However, in the accumulated of the year the balance is positive compared to 2020. Specifically, they rose 6.6% in relation to the previous year and reached 7,526,613 units. So far in 2021, Italy has led the largest increase, with 20.6%; followed by Spain, with 8.8%; and France, with 8%. In contrast is Germany that has lowered its new registrations by 1.2%.
Top selling brands
In September, the best-selling brands in the EU were Volkswagen, with 71,192 units; Renault, with 52,535 units; Toyota, with 41,147 units; Peugeot, with 41,004 units; and BMW, with 39,042 units.
So far in 2021 the ranking continues to be led by Volkswagen, with 874,556 units; Peugeot, with 501,074 units; and Renault, with 475,659 units, closes the podium. For its part, Toyota, with 456,775 new registrations; and BMW, with 415,432 units, occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
