Israel wants to approve the operation of 400 robot taxis

The Israeli government plans to operate 400 robot taxis in traffic.

On Tuesday, the Knesset’s Economic Committee deliberated on the law for autonomous driving. The plan is to initiate the first phase, which will allow 400 autonomous vehicles to be used. With this, Israel wants to join the leading countries in which development is being advanced. After all, around 640 startups are in Israel involved in the industry and the law wants to attract investors.

The government urged companies to involve taxi drivers in the development. The Ministry of Transport wants to buy back the taxi concessions to compensate the taxi companies. The law should also regulate operational responsibility.

The autonomous vehicles, primarily e-vehicles, are to be allocated primarily to public transport. There are currently around 40 vehicles on the road – mainly for test purposes.

However, there are also critical voices in favor of accidents in the mixed traffic warn of autonomous and manual vehicles. In addition, some fear the loss of jobs among professional travelers.
