Vauxhall has announced details of the all-new Astra Sports Tourer estate, adding an even more practical body style to the line-up. The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer will be open for orders in early 2022 with first deliveries arriving in the summer, while pricing details are yet to be confirmed.
The Astra Sports Tourer features Vauxhall’s latest design cues as seen on the Astra hatchback, including the firm’s trademark Vizor front end, which incorporates sensors for the driver and safety aids and LED headlights as part of the bold new look.
Key to the Sports Tourer’s estate body is the additional luggage room compared with the hatchback, offering 608 litres of usable space when the rear seats are upright and up to 1,634 litres with them folded. Opting for the plug-in hybrid variant will sacrifice some of that storage to make room for the battery mounted under the floor, offering 548 litres of storage with the seats upright and 1,574 litres.
Vauxhall will offer an ‘Intelli-Space’ option on both the petrol and diesel variants, providing a moveable load floor that can be adjusted into high and low positions and even tilted at a 45-degree angle. The retractable boot storage cover can also be stowed away for maximum storage.
Inside, the Astra Sports Tourer cabin mirrors the five-door models with a 10-inch digital dash and a touchscreen infotainment system of the same size featuring wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto as part of the new standard-fit Pure Panel digital cockpit set-up. The hatchback’s trim structure of Design, GS Line and Ultimate will likely be applied to the Sports Tourer range, too.
Ultra-ergonomic seats, certified by the Campaign for Healthier Backs (AGR), should provide comfort for the driver and passengers even on the longest of journeys.
Both petrol and diesel engines will be available with the Astra Sports Tourer, with Vauxhall stating power outputs will range from 108bhp to 128bhp.
It’s therefore likely that the Sports Tourer engine line-up will mirror the five-door hatch, offering two 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol units in 108bhp and 128bhp guise, while a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel with 128bhp should also be available. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on all combustion-engined options, while the plug-in hybrids use an eight-speed automatic.
In the Astra hatch line-up the two plug-in hybrid options comprise a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 12.4kWh battery driving an electric motor for a total of either 178bhp or 222bhp. Expect the hatchback’s zero-emissions range of around 35 miles to drop slightly for the heavier estate model.
Pricing for the new Astra Sports Tourer will be confirmed closer to the car’s on-sale date early in 2022, with deliveries scheduled for summer next year. However, given the extra tech on offer, a starting price of around £24,000 could be possible.
