How Northville family’s tragedy could force automakers to help end drunk driving

Even before the toxicology results came back, everyone knew the Abbas family of Northville had been killed by a drunk driver in an early morning smash-up on a dark Kentucky interstate. 

What no one could have guessed in those bleak moments three years ago was where that head-on collision would lead — in a direct line from the deaths of Issam and Rima Abbas and their three children to President Joe Biden signing into law last month a measure that could stop drunks from driving.
