Semiconductor design house, Alpha Holdings acquired Hansong Neotech’s share to jump into the secondary battery material, parts, and equipment market.

Alpha Holdings announced on the 22nd that they acquired 22.74% of shares from Synerworks for 42.8 billion KRW. Including Alpha Material Reals, which are part of 3 subsidiaries, they secured the right of management with 28% of shares.

Hansong Neotech is display, secondary battery equipment company. Their main business area is display equipment such as puller for the organic light emitting diode (OLED) manufacturing process, and now they are expanding it to secondary battery field.

Hansong Neotech previously acquired Shinhwa IT, a secondary battery component and material company. They supply lead tabs for small batteries used in information technology (IT) devices, and lead tabs for medium and large battery applied to electric vehicles and energy storage systems (ESS).

A lead tab is a part material that connects to battery material (electrode) of the secondary to help with electrical input and output. As the supply of battery pouches for EV are increasing, it is expected that demands for lead tabs will also increase.

Shinhwa IT is expanding their small lead tab supply for argument reality (AR) equipment for Enovix from the USA. Since the usage of equipment for metaverse is increasing, it is expected that the lead tab supply will also increase. For large size lead tabs, they are expanding lead tab supply to enterprise of middle standing such as Enertech International and Kokam. It is expected that they will also expand lead tab supply with the growth of EV market.

Alpha Holdings also plans to strengthen its battery equipment business. Hansong Neotech is developing back-end battery inspection equipment with LG Energy Solution. Since there are more issues regarding the battery performance and safety, it is expected that the supply of equipment will also increase. Alpha Holdings has been partnering with ADTechnology Asia in order to work as Samsung Electronic’s design house to design semiconductors.
