La micromovilidad, una opción posible para casi la mitad de los españoles

According to the Cetelem Observatory, 42% of Spaniards have considered changing from private combustion transport to the use of some form of urban mobility transport.

If you could ride a bike, moped or scooter to work, would you? Micromobility continues to gain ground in a context where cities are more booming than ever. According to the UN, 70% of people will live in cities in 2050. Therefore, the micromobility provided by bicycles, electric scooters… are key to achieving efficient and sustainable mobility. The latest Cetelem Observatory reflects that this way of moving is already a “possible” option for half of Spaniards”.

Specifically, 42% say they have considered changing from private combustion transport to some form of urban mobility transport such as bicycles or electric scooters. Those most willing to do so are, without a doubt, young people between 18 and 24 years old (66%). The most reluctant are, on the contrary, those surveyed over 45 years old (34%).

This thought translates directly into a buying habit. In fact, 25% of Spaniards intend to buy an electric bicycle or scooter soon. The study also highlights the most determining factors in choosing to purchase a vehicle with these characteristics. The majority give more importance to price (47% of cases), followed by the fact that the store or brand is committed to sustainability (29%).

As to whether they would buy these new or second-hand products, the answer is clear: 61% of Spanish consumers would consider buying a second-hand bike or scooter; and only 29% say they would always buy a new bike or scooter.

Dealers, information providers

All this information further reinforces the idea that dealerships become mobility providers. A recent McKinsey study indicates that it will be important for the dealer to study the local transport habits of his region or city in order to glimpse the future of micromobility.

It will be at that moment when the distributor can decide between expanding their product portfolios (adding mopeds, bicycles, electric scooters…), having a combined fleet or making any other decision.

For example, Quadis, the largest network of dealers and official workshops in Spain, continues to take steps in this direction. He has recently acquired Probike and Bicisport, two bicycle shops in Barcelona in addition to the Escapa company that he already acquired at the beginning of the year.
