The VW plant in Pamplona, northern Spain, has suspended production due to protests by truck drivers against high diesel prices. “Supplied parts are missing. The measure is valid for one day and means that 1438 vehicles cannot be manufactured,” said a spokesman for the German Press Agency on Monday. The Polo, T-Cross and Taigo types are produced at the plant in the province of Navarra.
According to media information, other industrial companies and parts of the construction industry in Spain also had to restrict their activities due to a lack of supplies. In addition, the supply of fresh food was partially affected.
A platform for goods transporters called for the protests that started a week ago, but they only represent a smaller part of the Spanish transport system, mainly small businesses. They blocked roads and distribution centers.

The umbrella organization of Spanish trucking companies CNCT, to which the protest platform does not belong, has so far spoken out against the combat measures. Before a meeting with government representatives on Monday, however, the association warned that this would change if the state did not take “immediate measures” to alleviate the price pressure caused by high fuel prices.
