Llega la impresión 3D a la automoción: así revoluciona el sector esta tendencia en auge

For example, 3D printing makes it possible, among other things, to create ranges of accessories such as holders for sunglasses or cans.

The technology and its constant development is allowing the automotive sector to achieve new milestones in the face of current challenges. In recent months, for example, 3D printing has been gaining importance in the sector after conquering other industries such as pharmaceuticals or aerospace. But how is this booming trend affecting the automotive sector?

The latest big news is that 3D printing has made it possible to create a range of accessories for the new PEUGEOT 308. Accessories include a sunglasses holder, a can holder and a phone/card holder inside the vehicle.

3D printing is still in full swing in the automotive industry. As Peugeot has revealed, this technology is not only intended for the manufacture of accessories but also for the most technical parts of the brand’s models. It should be noted that 3D printing is totally positive for the environment and, as such, contributes to the brand’s search for more sustainable manufacturing processes.

But it is not the only advantage it offers to the sector:

Design Freedom – Fewer manufacturing restrictions, more creative freedom for designers.
Optimized structures: reduced weight, greater strength, fewer assemblies.
Agile production: endless customization possibilities, series production with shorter delivery times.

Other fields of application

Peugeot has not been the first brand to use 3D printing in favor of innovation in the sector. Seat has a 3D printing laboratory located in the Prototype Center. Its printers work for all areas of the Spanish brand, such as design, production or logistics, making all kinds of elements.

In addition, one of the fields where 3D printing is reaping the most success is in the restoration of old cars. Certain parts that have already been discontinued are manufactured in this way, facilitating the restoration of any vehicle.
