Fastned recently opened its first few 175 kW fast chargers in the Netherlands and performed an interesting comparative test on the Hyundai IONIQ Electric.

As it turns out, the IONIQ Electric can be charged twice as quickly (to 80%) from the higher power chargers than from an ordinary 50 kW unit. This is due to the fact that the car itself can accept 60-70 kW.

That makes charging nearly twice as quick.

“Charging the Hyundai Ioniq at our stations now ~50% faster because of new generation of 175 kW chargers. Quite a difference & this marks just the beginning of a global race towards MUCH faster charging… ⚡️”

How do you get 50% more to nearly twice as quick? You can see that on the 50 kW charger it gets about 45 kW. On the other charger on the other hand it’s not even close to 90 kW.

50% faster is not twice as fast… Impressive though for such a small battery.
