With this decline in sales, the new passenger car market is still short of recovery. Compared to the same month of 2019, prior to the pandemic, there is a 51% drop.

In the first quarter of 2022, a total of 164,399 units were added, which represents a decrease of 11.6% compared to the previous year. Compared to the first quarter of 2019, the drop is 48%.

The individual channel registered a sharp drop in its deliveries of 22%, to 26,509 units. The rental channel, for its part, cut its deliveries by 66.4%, to 6,715 units. The drop in renters is especially noteworthy due to the proximity of Easter, when they renew their fleets.

LIGHT COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

In March, 9,635 light commercial vehicles were registered, 46.5% less than in the same month of 2021. The segment most affected again is the van/combi, with a drop of 47.3% and 2,611 units. The most affected channel is that of renters, with a drop of 53.2%, to 1,351 units.

INDUSTRIAL AND BUSES

Registrations of industrial vehicles, buses, coaches and microbuses grew by 3% and 2,245 units in March 2022. Medium commercial vehicles were the only ones that increased their sales by 4.4% but with low volumes. Buses and minibuses did register a strong increase in their deliveries, 168.7%, up to 266 units.

VALUATION FROM FACONAUTO

Raúl Morales, communication director of FACONAUTO, indicated that “The general context of our country, especially the transport strike in March, and the particular context of the automobile, with the microprocessor crisis, have made the quarter worse than expected. the expected. The lack of supply is what conditions the market the most today, due to the fact that vehicle delivery times are still far from what we would like. Despite an environment as volatile as the current one, we continue to work together with manufacturers so that this situation affects customers as little as possible. The lack of supply being critical, what worries us most now is that, with the impact of the war in Ukraine and an increasingly deteriorating macroeconomic situation, it is the demand that could fail. Despite this and the poor performance of registrations, orders at dealerships still showed a reasonable pace in March.”
