El presidente de Faconauto visita a los concesionarios colombianos

Gerardo Pérez has completed a trip to Colombia to explain the Faconauto model and its experience in distribution to businessmen in the sector.

The National Association of Dealers of Colombia (Asonac) has held its annual Convention this week in Cartagena de Indias to discuss the challenges currently facing the dealer sector in the country. Gerardo Pérez, president of Faconauto, has been invited to this meeting where he has explained to the businessmen the Faconauto model and the importance that it has at this moment for the dealers to unite around a strong and representative employers’ association.

“What brings me to Cartagena is explaining to our fellow Colombian dealers the importance of having a strong representation at the national level. I want to convey to you the good practices that we have in Spain, how we work with governments on road safety, the integration of women in dealerships, how we have our own university to train young people, and not so young, who want to join, and how We have a project called Faconauto Verde, which deals with the decarbonisation of 5,200 facilities that we have in Spain. We want to make all of this visible to be an example for the rest of the businessmen”, explained the president.

The challenges of Colombian dealers

Focusing on the case of Colombia, the president of Faconauto indicated the importance of distributors being up to the challenges that lie ahead. “The rise of direct sales, electric propulsion engines, hydrogen vehicles, connectivity, the 5G network that will allow cars to be autonomous… The sector is going to be revolutionized in the next ten years like never before. For this reason, it is important that entrepreneurs unite and as a group can work for joint solutions”.

Gerardo Pérez insisted during his speech on the importance of working together with the Government to undertake the transformations that the country’s automotive industry needs. “The first thing that dealers have to do today in Colombia is to work intensely with the Government to try to make the market grow, to renew the fleet and to increase the direct employment they generate. We must realize that dealers in Colombia have more than 50,000 quality employees and many of them are permanent, that must be strengthened, ”he pointed out.

A promising future

On the other hand, Pérez predicts a promising future for the Colombian market, which in 2021 sold more than 250,000 new vehicles. “A future where sales increase as has happened in other times. It should be a robust and powerful market in Colombia, but much more can be achieved through the Association of Dealers and by working with importers and the Government to reduce the age of the fleet”.
