Nissan’s ProPilot for autonomous driving from 2030

The Japanese manufacturer Nissan presented the new next-generation ProPilot technology.

Another step towards autonomous driving showed Nissan before: The “Ground Truth Perception” is a sensor fusion of radar, camera and lidar. In this way, the environment and dangers are recognized in real time. According to Nissan, this will enable autonomous driving to be achieved by 2030, because the system avoids accidents. In addition, one would also be able to map the environment with it.

Nissan installed the Pro Pilot’s technology in a Skyline sedan and demonstrated the capabilities on a proving ground. The vehicle avoided dangerous situations involving pedestrians, cyclists and other traffic.

Nissan leadership expects the Nissan Pro Pilot to be safe by the middle of the decade, so one 2030 commercialization can begin. However, not all models will be equipped with it by 2030. It will be available as an optional extra on some models. But some collisions are inevitable, which is why strategies for damage control suggests.

However, the costs of the system are considerable, as Nissan admitted. This has to do with the lidar sensor that Nissan some time ago therefore no longer wanted to use it. Above all Tesla took the lead and relies on camera sensors.
