All-electric TVR Griffith coming as firm joins Formula E

TVR has announced its sponsorship of Formula E this year along with plans for an all-electric Griffith sports car. The move comes as TVR looks to focus on electrified vehicles with company chairman Les Edgar saying its Formula E sponsorships “not only demonstrate our commitment to revolutionising the TVR brand, but to EV, and becoming a sustainable, net-zero business.”

The British sports car maker will sponsor this year’s Monaco E-Prix in April and London’s E-Prix double header in July.

Meanwhile, a joint venture between TVR and lithium-mining company Ensorcia Metals has been set up to fund production of the delayed Griffith, first unveiled in 2017. Other than the powertrain, it remains unclear how the new electric Griffith will differ from its still-to-be-launched V8 counterpart.

TVR plans the electric Griffith to be produced in limited numbers and says the car could hit the market as early as 2024 with Edgar revealing that it’ll be released soon after the combustion-engined model. Production will take place at TVR’s Ebbw Vale factory in Wales.

While there aren’t too many all-electric coupes on the market, should we see the all-electric Griffith compete with the likes of the Piech GT, Maserati GranTurismo Folgore and Weismann Thunderball
