Carlos Ghosn allegedly received more than $30 million from a Renault distributor in the Middle East

If Carlos Ghosn escaped Japanese justice by fleeing to Lebanon, he risks soon being tried in France, whether he is present or not, for abuse of corporate assets, money laundering and acts of corruption. French magistrates suspect the former CEO of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance of having received more than $30 million from a major distributor of the automotive group based in the Middle East.

Their investigation overlaps with some of the wrongdoings already identified by the Tokyo prosecutor’s office, but also uncovered a system of “retrocommissions” that had never been revealed before.
