Alternative propulsions have accounted for 26,821 units sold in April 2022 compared to 23,907 in 2021 and 474 in 2020.
In the month of April, the sales crisis in the automobile sector has continued to lengthen its shadow. The market is down 12% again due to the microchip crisis and economic uncertainty. However, not all segments have been equally affected. Electrified vehicles have increased their registrations around 12% in April. In total, 26,821 units have been registered compared to 23,907 in 2021 (+12.19%) and 474 in 2020 (+5558.44%).
The market share of alternative drives has remained high compared to the previous year. It is positioned in second place after gasoline vehicles and very far from diesel. So the cake is distributed as follows in April: 38.8% of the rest of the technologies, which includes sales of pure electric (BEV), extended-range electric (EREV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and non-plug-in (HEV), hydrogen (FCEV), CNG, LNG and LPG; 43.6% gasoline vehicles; and 17.6% diesel vehicles.
So far in 2022, 94,217 units of this type of vehicle have been sold, 20.65% more than in the same period of 2021 when 78,090 units sold were recorded. In 2020 the figure barely reached 39,501 units.
In the annual market share, electrified vehicles account for 40.3% of total sales, just one point less than gasoline.
Data by segment and autonomous communities
In April 2022, most of the autonomous communities have seen how the registrations of this type of passenger car increased. The exception of Aragón (-3.06), Asturias (-14.81%), the Valencian Community (-10.46%), La Rioja (-11.65%) and Navarra (-28.67%) should be noted. ). Electric, hybrid, hydrogen vehicles… continue to have a higher market share in Madrid (45.21%) and Catalonia (13.85%).
But, what alternative energy vehicles are being bought? As a piece of information for dealers, in April 2022 the ECO and Zero vehicles stood out in the medium SUV segment with 11,233 units sold. They are followed by others such as compacts (4,236 units) or small SUVs (3,896 units). Medium SUVs and large minivans are the ones that grow the most compared to April 2021.
