In the more than 100-year-old BMW plant in Munich, more and more electric cars are to be manufactured in the future.

BMW is making its main plant in Munich a pioneer in the construction of fully electric cars. “Next year every second vehicle from the Munich plant should be fully electric. According to current plans, that means more than 100,000 BMW i4s,” said CEO Oliver Zipse on Friday at the plant’s 100th anniversary celebrations.
Board Member for Production Milan Nedeljkovic said: “This means that the main plant will already be implementing in 2023 what the BMW Group’s goal for 2030 is worldwide, namely a BEV share of at least 50 percent.” The demand for the all-electric i4 is “not only huge, it overwhelms us ‘ Zipse said.
In Munich, 900 cars are built every day – mostly 3 Series, since November also i4 Series. 100 years ago, the Bavarian Motor Works in Munich built motorcycles, since 1952 cars.
The oldest and smallest BMW factory employs 7000 people. In place of the engine factory, where until recently 2000 petrol engines were manufactured daily, BMW is now building a new vehicle assembly plant.

Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) emphasized the importance of BMW as a taxpayer and as an employer. “Industrial production in the city means good, reasonably paid jobs.” It is easier to keep companies in the city than to settle new ones. “Thank you for remaining loyal to Munich,” said the mayor.
