Northstar Group, Arbor Ventures and ARA Asset Management have announced key appointments.

Northstar appoints head of investor relations

Singapore-headquartered private equity firm Northstar Group has appointed Roger Suter as executive director—head of investor relations, Suter announced on Linkedin.

Before joining Northstar, Suter worked at UBS for 13 years, most recently as a director and client advisor for Southeast Asian family offices.

Northstar recently made headlines when it achieved the final close of Northstar Equity Partners V Limited (Northstar V) at $590 million, much smaller than its original target of $800 million announced in 2019.

The PE firm, established in 2003, manages over $2.2 billion in committed equity capital dedicated to investing in growth companies in Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia.

Northstar has so far raised five PE funds, with its investors including a global list of sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, endowments, family offices and other institutional investors.

Arbor Ventures names general partner

Singapore-based Arbor Ventures, a global venture capital firm investing at the intersection of financial services and technology, has appointed Peter Sanborn, a former senior leader at PayPal, as its first general partner.

Peter will join Arbor’s early-stage investment team and will also be responsible for leading growth-stage investments for the Arbor B-FLEXION Growth Fund.

Peter is based in San Francisco and joins from PayPal, where he worked for nearly eight years, most recently as vice-president, head of corporate development and managing partner of PayPal Ventures.

Prior to PayPal, Peter worked in financial services at HSBC in Asia (Hong Kong) and Latin America (Mexico City), focusing on banking, insurance, consumer finance and asset management M&A transactions.

Founded in 2013, Arbor Ventures is a global investment firm focused on companies that leverage advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, composable service offerings and blockchain applications.

ARA COO Ng to step down

Beng Tiong Ng, deputy group chief executive officer and group chief operating officer at ARA Asset Management, has stepped down from the role, per a Private Equity Real Estate (PERE) report.

He will officially leave the firm at the end of the month as part of ARA’s broader plan to integrate with its parent company ESR Group.

In January, Hong Kong-based ESR announced the completion of its $5.2-billion acquisition of ARA, including its subsidiary LOGOS.

Before joining ARA, Ng was financial director at Singaporean property group Low Leng Huat from 2003 to 2007.

Most recently, ARA has promoted David Blight as chief investment officer of its private funds division. Blight joined ARA in 2015 as chief executive officer of ARA Australia, responsible for ARA’s business activities in Australia and New Zealand.
