German Handelsblatt: Compact SUV: Larger kidney and more drives – that’s the new BMW X1004382

BMW X1

The new edition is also available electrically.

BMW is relaunching the X1. The third generation of the compact SUV has a slightly larger kidney grille and is generally a touch more aggressive than last. In addition to diesels, petrol engines and plug-in hybrids, the drive portfolio includes a purely electric variant called iX1 for the first time. The market launch of the crossover begins in October.
In terms of dimensions, the new model is only slightly larger, but with a length of 4.50 meters it maintains the respectful distance to the mid-range SUV X3. There is no optical revolution either, the radiator grille is a little steeper and grows slightly, but does not look oversized like in other new models from Munich.
The eye-catcher in the interior is a large, slightly concave display running the latest version of the BMW infotainment system. Operation is essentially via touch-sensitive surfaces, there is no rotary pushbutton. The Bavarians also do without the vertical gear selector lever. Instead, the automatic is controlled via a small slider.

There are two petrol and two diesel engines to choose from right from the market launch, each of which is combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The basis is a 100 kW/136 hp 1.5-liter petrol engine (X1 18i, from 41,400 euros), which directs its power to the front axle. Above that is the four-wheel drive model X1 23i with 160 kW/218 hp (from 49,450 euros), a displacement of two liters and four cylinders.

The diesel range includes the 110 kW/150 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder model X1 18d with front-wheel drive (from 43,950 euros) and a more powerful version with 155 kW/211 hp and all-wheel drive (X1 23d, from 50,150 euros).

engine variety

In addition to diesels, petrol engines and plug-in hybrids, the drive portfolio includes a purely electric variant called iX1 for the first time.

From November, the range will be supplemented by further conventional variants and two plug-in hybrids. The electric iX1 xDrive 30 (from 55,000 euros) will also be available from November. The electric all-wheel drive has a system output of 230 kW/313 hp, the torque is specified as 494 Nm, and the range is said to be up to 438 kilometers. The electric crossover needs 5.7 seconds to sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h.
