Due to a lack of semiconductors, the Stellantis factory in La Janais must once again cease production until July 5. A shortage that falls badly in full launch of the new C5 Aircross
The information fell this Wednesday, June 22 at an extraordinary meeting of the CSE. In Chartres de Bretagne near Rennes, the Stellantis de la Janais site will once again have to cease production until July 5.
Once again in question, the shortage of semiconductors which has shaken the world economy for 2 years: “this time it directly impacts the delivery of car radios”, indicates the management of the site
La Janais (ex-PSA) has already experienced such production stoppages. The last date back to the month of march.
Since then, with the launch of new C5 Aircross restyled, the factory, which also produces Peugeot 5008s, was running at full speed, with a production of around 400 vehicles/day. An intense load plan to ensure vehicle allocations on the network, which required working on Saturdays and public holidays
The CFDT specifies that this new production shutdown was foreseeable insofar as the Sochaux site had also been shut down for a week. But the recurrence of supply failures worries the union insofar as it comes to hit the launch of the new vehicle.
The new C5 Aircross is a commercial success. “The Breton site was a priority to be supplied with parts. But that is not enough”, specifies Laurent Valy, secretary of the CSE of Janais. “It’s worrying because the business here is basically based on this vehicle until 2024. And it’s never good to miss the start…”
The site employs 2,400 people. Placed in partial activity, “CDIs have the possibility of receiving 100% of their salary by participating in training courses specifically set up, indicates the management. Temporary workers benefit from an advance of 56 euros, allowing the maintenance of their remuneration on the 35 hour basis.”
