Lausitzring is being expanded for autonomous driving

The Lausitzring is being expanded by Dekra with new test areas for autonomous driving.

The testing of autonomous driving consists of three pillars – in the simulation, in demarcated areas and in local public transport. Most of the time that happens test procedure in that order, using simulations over and over again. Of the Lausitzring is of course assigned to the second category.

Starting next year, the decra the test area at the Lausitzring. For this, Dekra is investing more than ten million euros, of which the state of Brandenburg is contributing 2.14 million euros. The Lausitzring is to become the test site for autonomous driving in Germany. A facade city is created here in which the vehicles have to prove themselves. How the facade city is designed can be shown depending on the test requirements. A “campus network” will be established for communication, which will provide a real-time connection via 5G.

The construction work will start shortly and promises will be less noise for the test run than for the races. Meanwhile, Dekra is planning further test routes, with which highway tests can be completed.
