In the event of entry into Formula 1, Porsche does not see any major economic risk. He was “confident that it could be profitable,” said Porsche boss Oliver Blume of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (Friday). The carmaker has been considering a commitment to the racing series for a long time when a new set of rules takes effect from 2026.
Then the hybrid engines are to be operated with 100 percent sustainable fuel. The combustion engine in the unit should only contribute 50 percent of the power, the rest is electric. That fits with the future direction of the auto industry.
“We welcome the draft of the regulations,” said Porsche CEO Blume. As a result, there is an opportunity to get started, which only happens every ten years. “And if we get involved in the premier class of racing, then with a strong partner,” added CFO Lutz Meschke in the “FAZ”. Experts expect that Porsche wants to join the Red Bull team led by world champion Max Verstappen.
Recently, however, talks with the world association Fia about the specific details of the new regulations have stalled. It is expected that the negotiations will be completed in the summer and that Porsche and possibly Audi will then finalize their Formula 1 plans.

Porsche boss Blume justified the interest with the growing success of the motorsport premier class. “Last year, over 1.5 billion television viewers watched Formula 1,” he said. In the digital channels, the racing series is “the sport that is gaining the most interest,” added Blume. For him, Formula 1 plays in a league with the soccer Champions League, the Olympic Games or the World Cup, he said.
