The Automobile Club of Italy disseminates the latest results of the European tests: Alfa Romeo Tonale, KIA Sportage and Cupra Born pass the exam with flying colors, together with Mercedes-Benz T-Class and Citan Tourer

Euro NCAP tested the safety of seven new car models, promoting five with top marks: the new crossovers Alfa Romeo Tonale, KIA Sportage and the electric Cupra Born, as well as the MPV – Multi Purpose Vehicle Class T and Citan Tourer, both from Mercedes-Benz. The Toyota Aygo X and the electric BMW i4 complete the series, judged with 4 stars.

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale satisfies all the requirements for an excellent rating, even though it lacks a central airbag and shows itself to be improved in frontal collisions. The car is very effective in preventing accidents and also offers a system that can detect the driver’s drowsiness.

The completely revamped KIA Sportage shares the platform of the Hyundai Tucson already promoted last year, while the Cupra Born offers high safety standards for a sports car.

The Mercedes-Benz T-Class and Citan Tourer, twin models (partner models), sport a new central airbag and high-performance active safety systems.

Toyota Aygo X, on the other hand, suffers an incomplete supply of all advanced systems, while the BMW i4 loses a few points in its ability to prevent accidents.

“The good results of this new series of Euro NCAP tests highlight the commitment towards the safety of the manufacturers – says Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club of Italy – and the Alfa Romeo Tonale is a sign of recovery in the right management of the Italian automotive sector “.

Full test results and evaluation sheets for each model are online on the site Euro NCAP.
