New mandatory assistance systems in the EU

The EU regulation has been in force since yesterday, according to which new cars must now be equipped with certain assistance systems.

The aim of the EU regulation, which has been in force since yesterday, July 6th, is to make traffic safer and driving more comfortable. This should succeed with assistance systems, which will also affect new registrations from 2024. This affects the M and N class models.

The now mandatory assistance systems include, for example, the speed assistant (ISA Intelligent Speed ​​Assist), which warns of exceeding the maximum speed and adjusts it. In addition, drowsiness warnings must be integrated. This system monitors alertness and warns of tiredness. Of the emergency braking assistant brakes when the human fails to do so. This system is for trucks and buses already prescribed. In addition, the emergency brake light is mandatory, which indicates heavy braking.

The emergency lane departure warning system also promotes road safety through warnings and steering wheel access so that the lane is maintained. The tire pressure monitoring system now also applies to commercial vehicles and truck trailers. The reversing assistant helps drivers when reversing and the Blind Spot Assistant applies to heavier commercial vehicles.

The alcohol immobilizer will also be mandatory, as will accident data storage for cars and light commercial vehicles.
