Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari recently said that the government is planning to make an electric highway between Delhi and Mumbai.
He also urged heavy vehicle owners to use alternative fuels, such as ethanol, methanol and green hydrogen to curb pollution. According to a PTI report, the Road Transport and Highways Minister said that the government is making tunnels worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore.
Further, he stated that, “Our planning is to make an electric highway from Delhi to Mumbai. Just like trolleybus, you can also run trolley trucks.”
“A trolleybus is an electric bus that draws power from overhead wires. An electric highway generally refers to a road which supplies power to vehicles traveling on it, including through overhead power lines.”
Nitin Gadkari further said that the ministry has taken this decision to connect all the districts by four-lane roads. He added, “I request heavy vehicle owners to use alternatives like ethanol, methanol and green hydrogen as they are cost effective and import substitutes.”
Heavy vehicle owners are facing issues due to the corruption in Regional Transport Offices, Nitin Gadkari admitted. Continuing the discussion, he said, “So, we have to digitise all services provided by RTOs”.
He further stated that his aim is to minimize road accidents and deaths. “We need trained drivers. As a fast growing economy, India needs all kinds of transportation.”
Moreover, the Minister also said that in India logistics cost is high compared to the European Union, the US and China.
