With promise of ‘instant gratification’, India’s ultrafast delivery apps race for market share

It’s around 4.45 p.m. on a balmy Friday afternoon in Bengaluru and I’m sat at home glancing at the clock on my bookshelf in nervous expectation. The seconds tick by.

Moments later, the chiming of my phone breaks the silence. It’s a notification from one of India’s myriad “quick commerce” delivery startups telling me a worker has arrived with my package. I check the clock. My chocolate rolls and lychee juice landed in under 20 minutes.
