We’ve helped over 3,000 Captains in Pakistan become car owners……
Captains are the lifeblood of Careem. When we started Careem just over six years ago we did so with only 25 Captains in Dubai – soon we will have a million Captains in over 100 cities in 14 countries.
Careem relies on its Captains, but those Captains need to have a car, so in some of the markets where people want to work for us but can’t afford a car we help them. Pakistan is one such market.
A person may not have been credit-worthy before, but with the income that we are able offer them we can guarantee to a lender that they are credit worthy, and that the future Captains will be earning an income. We also work with government initiatives to help people become employed.
In Pakistan we also work with the FleetCo department. The FleetCo department was setup to ensure multiple streams to generate quality supply for Careem.
In the past year, the FleetCo team has established three partnerships with financial institutions – JS Bank, Telenor Bank and UBL.
The JS and UBL partnerships are..

Thursday 12 July 2018, Goodwood: One of the most exciting, outrageous and diminutive creations ever to wear the famous Aston Martin wings will be making its world debut at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Dubbed the ‘The Ultimate City Car’, a one-off Aston Martin Cygnet has been built with a 4.7-litre, 430bhp V8 engine from the Vantage S and a very short torque tube.
The V8 Cygnet has been brought to life for a single customer through the ‘Q by Aston Martin – Commission’ service. This section of the British marque’s bespoke personalisation service allows the ultimate in freedom of expression when designing an Aston Martin and the V8 Cygnet continues to push these boundaries.
Aston Martin Vice President & Special Operations Officer, David King said: “The V8 Cygnet shows the fun side of both Aston Martin and its customers. It is also a fine example of the engineering talent within the company as it’s no small achievement to fit the Vantage’s V8 engine so harmoniously into the Cygnet’s compact body. I am sure that it will amaze and thrill people when they see and hear it on the hill at the Festival of Speed.”
Developed in-house by Aston Martin’s engineers, the starting point for the project was a right-hand drive Cygnet steel body shell and panels. A roll cage was welded to this, becoming an integral part of the chassis in the process, while a new front bulkhead and transmission tunnel were fabricated from sheet metal to accommodate the characterful 4.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 Vantage S powertrain. Subframes and suspension are also derived from the previous generation Vantage and a steel fuel tank housing has been mounted in the boot area, utilizing every inch of space.
Despite all this work, the car remains very recognisably a Cygnet from the outside. The face of the little Aston Martin remains largely untouched, with no extra bulges in the bonnet and just a subtle black mesh for the famous grille. However, there is no disguising the extra width of the wheel arches. In order to accommodate the significantly wider front and rear tracks, beautiful carbon composite flared extensions were made. These also house the new forged, five-spoke, diamond-turned wheels, which have grown from 16” to 19” in diameter.
At the rear of the car the distinguishing new feature of the V8 Cygnet is the central twin exhaust pipes. The exhaust is a bespoke system with twin underfloor mufflers and catalytic converters. With relatively short distances involved from manifold to tail pipe the V8 Cygnet has a voice that belies its compact size.
The engine itself is the 4.7-litre, naturally-aspirated V8 that is more usually found beneath the bonnet of the previous-generation Vantage S. Bespoke intake trunking had to be designed and there are twin conical air filters. There is no sense in which the engine has been neutered for the Cygnet, however, with power and torque figures remaining at 430bhp and 490NM (361lb ft) respectively.
The gearbox is also taken from the V8 Vantage S with a seven-speed Sportshift II transmission taking care of the shifting. Power is transferred via a miniature torque tube to the 9.5” rear wheels, which are complemented by 275/35 Bridgestone tyres.
Weighing just 1375kg when full of fluids, the V8 Cygnet has a power-to-weight ratio of 313bhp/tonne. As a result, the V8 Cygnet is capable of accelerating faster than the V8 Vantage S with 0-60mph taking just 4.2 seconds. With a top speed of 170mph it is over 60mph faster than the regular Cygnet.
Braking is taken care of by 380mm discs clamped by six-piston monoblock calipers at the front and 330mm discs gripped by four-piston mono block calipers at the rear. The calipers are painted yellow to contrast with the Buckinghamshire green of the bodywork. Most of the remaining parts of the braking system are taken from the V8 Vantage S with ABS and a fixed brake bias valve. Inside, there is a bespoke brake pedal housed in the V8 Vantage-derived pedal box.
The rest of the interior is largely indicative of the fact that this V8 Cygnet could easily be used for competition. In addition to the roll cage there is a fully FIA compliant fire extinguisher system and seating is taken care of by composite, fixed back Recaro bucket seats with four-point harnesses. The alcantara covered steering wheel is removable and behind this sits a bespoke carbon dash with the familiar Vantage instrument cluster. There are, of course, little touches of luxury inside as well, with leather pull straps on the unique carbon door cards and two USB ports alongside the bespoke controls for the air conditioning.
This very special one-off Cygnet is a timely reminder of what a ground-breaking car the original was, bringing luxury to the city car segment. What’s more, the market place shows that prices of Cygnets are rising as it looks set to become a future classic. Of course, classic status is already almost assured for this new V8 version of the Cygnet that epitomises the concept of a ‘pocket rocket’ and is sure to be a firm favourite of the crowds at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend as it joins a plethora of other Aston Martins on the hillclimb.

Aston Martin, the producer of highly desirable luxury handcrafted sports cars, today announced it has completed the second phase of its new car assembly plant at St Athan, in South Wales.
20 July 2018, St Athan, Wales: Aston Martin, the producer of highly desirable luxury handcrafted sports cars, today announced it has completed the second phase of its new car assembly plant at St Athan, in South Wales.
Aston Martin’s Board of Directors held their first meeting in St Athan to mark the completion of building work at the facility, which involves the conversion of three super hangars at the former Ministry of Defence site into a state-of-the-art vehicle assembly facility.
Directors and shareholder representatives of Aston Martin were briefed on the progress of the project, in which production of the company’s first sports utility vehicle (SUV) is due to begin in late 2019.
The St Athan plant is a demonstration of Aston Martin’s continued commitment to the UK and is set to bring up to 750 new employment opportunities to the South Wales region. Of the total workforce, 150 employees have been recruited as part of the pre-production preparations.
When the St Athan plant is complete, it will join Aston Martin’s Gaydon headquarters and Newport Pagnell site as centres of the highest quality of British craftmanship and engineering.
The fit-out of the super hangars, the third and final phase of the construction project, has already begun ahead of the inaugural production planned for next year as part of the company’s Second Century Plan.
Dr Andy Palmer, Aston Martin President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are delighted at the progress being made at the St Athan site. The team have done a fantastic job in advancing the facility and I was incredibly proud to chair our first Board meeting at the new plant. Wales has a long history of engineering excellence and the Board is delighted that it will play such an important part in Aston Martin’s development.”
Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport Ken Skates said: “I am delighted to see our partnership with Aston Martin, right in the heart of our Cardiff Airport and St Athan Enterprise Zone, coming to fruition.
“Progress to date continues to match the company’s aspiration for future growth and, when complete, the site will provide highly-skilled employment and world-class apprenticeship opportunities in the automotive sector for many generations to come. I wish them the same success with the next phase.”

Production site increased from 80,000 to 160,000 m2 Expansion in record time at full production capacityManifattura Lamborghini: the new expression of Industry 4.0Sant’Agata Bolognese, 17 October 2017 – Automobili Lamborghini’s ongoing strategic investment programme, aligned with the launch of its new Super SUV the Urus, sees its production site now doubled with the creation of substantial new facilities and technologies at its factory headquarters in Sant’ Agata Bolognese, Italy. As well as expanding the site from 80,000 to 160,000 m2, the Urus will also bring about a substantial increase in the company’s production capacity, doubling it to 7,000 units a year. The new production facility houses a new assembly line dedicated to Urus, the new finishing department for all Lamborghini models, and a new office building with LEED Platinum certification: the highest standard in the world for energy and environmental certification in building design and construction. A new test track has also been built with thirteen different surfaces specific to SUVs, as well as a new logistics warehouse, a second trigeneration power plant, and the new energy hub for centralized production of all the energy carriers. Ranieri Niccoli, Chief Manufacturing Officer, commented: “With our third model, we wanted to introduce the most innovative production technologies and smart factory concepts, supporting and complementing the activities of our workforce. Urus ushers in a new model of factory, which we call Manifattura Lamborghini, a new point of reference in the luxury automobile industry. The substantial resultant benefits include greater production flexibility, better information accessibility, and the interconnection of systems: strengthening the professionalism of craftsmanship that has always distinguished us and supporting the doubling of our production volumes.” The creation of new buildings and the installation of innovative technologies involved more than 600 enterprises working on the project with a total of 3,600 external workers. The factory expansion was completed in a record time of just 18 months, during which the company operated at full production capacity and achieved record sales in 2016 (+7% over the previous year). The project was achieved without neglecting Lamborghini’s commitment to environmental sustainability: the entire production facility in Sant’Agata Bolognese maintains the carbon neutral certification obtained in 2015. Manifattura Lamborghini The new Industry 4.0 assembly line, dedicated entirely to the Urus Super SUV, integrates new production technologies to support workers in assembly activities. The super sports car maker expresses this approach as Manifattura Lamborghini, which is characterized by four basic principles: Craftsmanship: preserving and optimizing craftsmanship with the integration of innovative technologies, increasing the potential for product customization on one hand, and guaranteeing the highest quality standards on the other.Competencies and specialization: digitalization enables workers, via touchscreen devices, to access production information made available by easily-consulted interconnected systems.Production process: AGVs (Automatic Guided Vehicles) are used as vehicle and material transport systems. Thanks to this system, the flexibility of the building layout is maintained.Ergonomics and safety: collaborative robots assist the workers, to improve ergonomics and for repetitive operations that require high quality, such as window gluing, under-body screwing, and wheel assembly.

Sant’Agata Bolognese, 23 September 2016 – Today, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi paid a visit to Lamborghini's production facilities at Sant’Agata Bolognese, in a moment of historic expansion being experienced by the company, a producer of excellence in Made in Italy craftsmanship.
Mr. Renzi was welcomed by Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali together with members of the company's management team. Mr. Renzi's delegation visited the factory where the Huracán and Aventador are produced. During their visit, they focused on a new area that is under construction, where a 70,000 square-meter manufacturing hub is being built for the new Lamborghini SUV slated to debut in 2018. Mr. Domenicali presented the expansion project to Mr. Renzi where work is proceeding quickly to complete the new factory, a new logistics center, a test track and additional R&D departments. The expansion will result in a significant increase in the number of employees and will also double sales volumes.
“Lamborghini is currently undergoing a momentous change. It is embarking on a remarkable period of growth, thanks to the new SUV to be launched in Sant’Agata Bolognese. This was made possible by the technical and industrial synergy of our Group and by the support of the Italian Government and the Emilia-Romagna Regional Administration. The project is a significant expression of a new approach to doing things together, through the joint efforts of government agencies, labor unions and companies; an approach involving different experience and responsibilities. Such a joint project is an activity that will effectively create confidence in the future, stimulate other positive examples of industrial growth and enhance our country's level of competitiveness,” said Mr. Domenicali.

Worldwide deliveries increase by 11% to 2,327 cars in first half of 2018Europe leading global growth with highest gains in Italy and UKWorldwide deliveries of Super SUV Lamborghini Urus about to startStrong growth path substantiated beyond FY 2018Sant’Agata Bolognese, 13 July 2018 – Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. reports another increase in worldwide deliveries. In the first six months (January 1 to June 30) of the current Fiscal Year 2018 the Italian super sports car maker delivered a total of 2,327 cars to customers around the world. Compared to the same period in the previous year this is an increase of 11%. These figures mark another record and even surpass the full year sales numbers of only five years ago. “Lamborghini continues to be in consistently good shape. Delivering another new all-time high, for the fourth consecutive half year, confirms the sustainability of our brand, product and commercial strategy. The success is all the more remarkable as we master the unprecedented double challenge of creating new models in our super sports car range, while simultaneously ramping up the production of our highly acclaimed Super SUV Urus. This quantum leap in the longstanding history of Lamborghini is only possible due to the passion, dedication and competence of our unrivalled team,” says Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. In July the first customer deliveries of the Lamborghini Urus are to start. Thus, the half-year growth is based mainly on further increased sales of the two super sports car model lines Huracán and Aventador. Boosted by rocketing sales of the Huracán Performante, global sales of the Huracán model line with Coupé, Spyder and racecar versions showed an increase from 1,400 to 1,604 units. The Aventador line maintained the high level of the previous period with 673 units delivered. The largest single market for Lamborghini once again was the US, followed by Japan and the United Kingdom. The strongest region was Europe with an increase of more than 30%. Within Europe, Italy, the UK and Austria showed the highest growth rates. The outlook for Lamborghini continues to be strongly positive. The company has successfully completed the massive investment phase in the new development and production sites for the Urus model line at the Sant’Agata Bolognese Headquarters. Stefano Domenicali underlines: “After crossing the billion Euro turnover threshold for the first time in 2017, and with the first deliveries of our Super SUV starting, the stage is set for us to enter a new dimension for the company, while never compromising the exclusivity of our brand.” The company confirms its expectation of sustained solid growth for the reminder of the 2018 financial year.
