German Handelsblatt: Autonomous driving: Waymo and Daimler Truck are testing fully automated trucks in Texas005025

Waymo Truck: The Google subsidiary is testing self-driving “Freightliner” trucks from Daimler Truck.

The Google subsidiary Waymo and the German manufacturer Daimler Truck are starting test runs with fully automatic trucks. Both companies announced this at a virtual press conference on Tuesday. The trucks of the Daimler brand Freightliner are to drive independently, referred to as “Level 4” in technical jargon.
In 2020, Daimler Truck partnered with Waymo to develop a fully automated truck platform. Waymo is best known for the self-driving taxis that the company is testing in Phoenix and San Francisco.
The Freightliner trucks, which have been upgraded with numerous sensors, are being tested on public freeways around Dallas, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona. The plan is to start in the coming weeks. For this purpose, Waymo is setting up a location in Dallas, which serves as the end point of the driverless routes and is intended to facilitate the evaluation. It is the first tailor-made hub of this type in the USA, as noted by the specialist portal “Truckinginfo”.
