Hyundai Mobis launches design center to enhance competitiveness of auto parts

SEOUL, April 12 (Yonhap) — Hyundai Mobis Co. said Thursday it has built a design research center to strengthen its overall competitiveness and help it make car parts that best fit its vehicles.

The design center of the company, which is an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, is the first of its kind set up by a South Korean auto parts company. The facility has been set up at the automobile technology research institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, just south of Seoul.

“The Design Model Workshop, constructed on 240 square meters of land with an investment of 3 billion won (US$2.8 million), is equipped with clay model processing machines, 3D printers and other state-of-the-art facilities, a company official said.

“We’ve established the workshop to improve the quality of design by analyzing if auto parts suit the completed vehicles in a harmonious manner,” the official said.
