Subaru’s next-generation EyeSight driver assistance system gets AI support.
The manufacturer Subaru is developing new versions of its branded driver assistance system EyeSight, which uses artificial intelligence to enable autonomous driving and automatic parking. The new system is scheduled to come onto the market from 2025 and will have a stereo camera system. This data is evaluated by the AI and is intended to increase perception in situations that are difficult to see, such as lanes covered by snow.
In addition, the system will be updated via OTA (Over the Air) in the future. The updates should then come from the Subaru Lab development center for artificial intelligence. The lab was developed in 2020 and has slowly caught up with the backlog caused by the corona pandemic.
The system also serves Vision Zero by 2030, which means there should be no more road fatalities. The goal would be more important than the introduction of autonomous driving. What level the new generation of EyeSight achieves remained unanswered.
In June, the milestone of five million vehicles sold with EyeSight systems was reached. According to the manufacturer, vehicles equipped with Eyesight are involved in 40 percent fewer accidents involving pedestrians than vehicles without the system.
Similar to Tesla Subaru does not put on either lidar sensors. The new generation of the driver assistance system with stereo cameras is designed for this. They should help to achieve the necessary three-dimensionality. This is how the autonomous becomes Park succeed, which is also a source of accidents.
