The commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck has presented a battery-electric truck for long-distance transport. This has a range of around 500 kilometers in series production, the company announced on Sunday evening before the IAA Transportation commercial vehicle trade fair in Hanover. The “eActros LongHaul” should be ready for series production in 2024.
According to the Dax group, three battery packs deliver a total installed capacity of more than 600 kilowatt hours. The heavy electric truck is designed for a mileage of 1.2 million kilometers in ten years of operation.
The batteries, which are based on lithium iron phosphate cell technology, can be charged at a charging station with around one megawatt of power “from 20 to 80 percent in well under 30 minutes”. The customers needed the right infrastructure, said CEO Martin Daum according to the announcement. “For rapid development, it is essential that the entire industry and politicians pull together,” says Daum.
The vehicle is to be manufactured entirely on the existing assembly line at the plant in Wörth, Rhineland-Palatinate. This also included the installation of all electrical components and the commissioning of the vehicle at the end of the line. This enables high production capacities and parallel production of both conventional and fully electric trucks on the same line.
