The Spanish Pride: A Brief History Of The Spania GTA – HotCars

It’s true that we don’t give much attention to the Spanish automobile industry. Well, at least not in the same way as we do with some other European countries, such as Germany and Italy. In our defense, the mentioned countries did indeed make a rock-solid name for themselves in the automobile industry, and we have to focus on their mass and significant production.

Still, we don’t want to neglect the Spanish automobile industry, as it’s not any less worthy of attention. After all, Spain is home to many factories from other brands (Nissan, Renault, Volkswagen, and so many others) and is one of the largest automakers in Europe. Then, of course, there are the Spanish native brands such as Seat, Irizar, Tauro Sport Auto, Tramontana, Spania GTA, and more.

To pay tribute to the Spanish automobile industry, we take a closer look at the history of one of its brands. The Spania GTA is a luxury brand with a rich racing heritage we would like to explore briefly. Read on, as you’ll also find some beautiful examples of the Spain GTA selected car models.

Spania GTA: The Small But Extravagant Spanish Supercar Brand

Before we dive deeper into the brand history, it’s essential to note that the Spania GTA is inseparable from its racing heritage. This Spanish car brand is based in Valencia and is currently known as an automobile manufacturer that produces only a few super cars. But things didn’t start this way.

The Spania GTA history can be traced back to 1978 (although not officially) when Domingo Ochoa entered the world of motorsport. Ochoa, now the founder and owner of Spania GTA, spent 16 years in motorsport before he decided to create his own car brand in 1994. We can only assume his love for the wicked fast and stylish cars inspired him to take the chance in the industry. Thus, GTA Motor was born, the brand we know now as Spania GTA.

In the beginning, Spania GTA was more or less modest in cup participation. But now we know it takes part in some reputable championships such as the European Formula 3 Open, Super League Formula, International Open GT, and more.

On top of that, the Spanish brand was quite successful (and still is) with its first luxurious hypercar. The GTA Spano is something different indeed, as well as the other two models coming from Spania GTA. We’ll review them briefly below, so you can get a better sense of the Spania GTA design philosophy.

A Closer Look At The Spania GTA’s Lineup

According to Spania GTA, its current goal is to deliver advanced power and striking design in every model. The company allegedly uses innovative and high-end technology to achieve this goal and make the cars all about thrill, speed, and emotion. There are also premium materials to make the Spania GTA limited-number models luxurious enough for selected buyers. Did the company succeed? We’ll let you be the judge of that.

These are all Spania GTA vehicles parked in the photo above. More specifically, this is the Spano R lineup, the second design following the GTA Spano. There’s also the Karma lineup, which makes the Spania GTA attempt to enter the EV market. Let’s take a closer look at each of these three models.

GTA Spano

This is the much-praised Spanish sports car. Considering the GTA Spano offers quite an impressive performance and design, it’s no wonder why it’s known globally. The first generation of this car arrived at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013, and the second one has been around since 2015.

From the beginning of production, the GTA Spano came equipped with powerful engines and aggressive looks. Currently, the car offers 925 hp and a top speed of 370 km/h and reaches from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Naturally, there’s much more to tell about this sports car, but we’ll have to leave that for a separate, detailed review.

SPANO R

With a V8 twin-turbo engine that produces 1200 horsepower, the Spano R is an even bigger performer than its sibling. This model also brings a more aggressive styling (although we thought that’s not possible). As far as luxury goes, it’s enough to say that the Spano R is only produced in 40 units for 2022.

Karma

As we mentioned above, the Karma series aims to deliver exceptional style and luxury in a fully electrified vehicle. To be completely honest, the car looks amazing, and we can only imagine what kind of fame it will bring to the Spania GTA.

For this brief Spania GTA history overview, we should only highlight that these three cars perfectly showcase the brand’s desire to blend power, precision, and innovation. Spania GTA clearly adopts the competitive spirit its owner earned over his motorsport days and aims to win the hearts of customers with unmatched engineering.
