German Manager Magazin: 31.4 percent: car sales jumped in November002170

The car manufacturers have their sales in Germany increased sharply in November. In the past month, 260,512 new cars were registered, 31.4 percent more than in the same month last year, the Federal Motor Transport Authority said on Monday.

The minus in the year to date is reduced to 2.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Commercial new registrations increased more strongly in November than those of private car buyers. Electric cars were sold more frequently than cars with combustion engines, so their market share in November was 22.3 percent at almost 58,000 vehicles. Gasoline and diesel cars each achieved a market share of almost 28 percent.

Car manufacturers plan to increase production

Overall, the situation of German car manufacturers and their suppliers seems to be improving again. This is also shown in a study by the economic research institute Ifo: In November, the corresponding index for the business situation rose to minus 2.2 points after minus 4.3 in the previous month, as the institute reports.

The expectations for the coming months have risen to minus 13.3 points, after minus 35.3 in October. “The risk of a gas shortage in winter and thus a deep recession has decreased,” commented Ifo expert Oliver Falck. That makes the auto industry more confident.

The confidence among the manufacturers is particularly clear compared to the suppliers. Here the expectations rise from minus 30.6 points to minus 2.8 points. The business situation is up 8.2 percent after 2.6 percent in October. According to Falck, this shows that the German car manufacturers are already planning to increase production.
