MUMBAI: A crash attenuator has been installed near the Surya river bridge on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway at Charoti in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district where former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry lost his life in a car accident on September 4.
The impact attenuator was recently installed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) that identified 21 black spots on the stretch in Palghar district. Days after the accident NHAI had conducted a fresh audit of the safety measures on the highway.
NHAI officials said the crash cushion has been installed at the spot where the bridge narrows from a three lane to two. Mistry and his friend Jehangir Pandole, seated in the rear seats of a Mercedes Benz car were killed when the driver Dr. Anahita Pandole lost control of the vehicle near the bridge and crashed into the iron railing.
Mistry and Jehangir died on the spot. Anahita and her husband Darius, who was seated beside her, suffered serious injuries. While Darius has been discharged from hospital, Anahita is still undergoing treatment. Last month the Kasa police booked her for causing death due to negligence.
