Baidu & Pony.ai launch robotic taxi service in Beijing

Another step toward autonomous driving on the streets of Beijing is being taken by Baidu and Pony.ai.

The two Chinese companies Baidu and Pony.ai are testing autonomous taxis in Beijing. Baidu is the Chinese search engine based in Beijing and Pony.ai is from Toyota supports.

The test run takes place in a technology park set up by the government. The special thing about it is that there will no longer be any crew on board. The vehicles operate without human drivers and transport people. Ten of the vehicles per company will be active.

baidu has been charging a fee for using the service called Apollo Go since last year. In Wuhan and Chongqing, there are already no on-board staff and plans to halve the cost of an autonomous trip compared to a conventional taxi. This year they want to get 200 more vehicles at the start.

Meanwhile, Pony.ai is also active in the USA, where Chinese companies in this branch of the suspicion of espionage are exposed. Also, there was an accident there, resulting in the deprivation of a Trial License led in California.
