German Manager Magazin: BMW and Volkswagen: Total sales down in 2022, but more electric cars sold002238

bmw increased particularly strongly in electric cars last year. The proportion of fully electric cars has doubled to around 9 percent in 2022 with a total of 215,755 vehicles, the Munich-based carmaker announced on Tuesday. This year, sales should even rise to 15 percent. With the Mini brand, BMW has already set itself the goal of only selling electric cars from 2030. “We continue to have a high level of incoming orders, especially for our all-electric models,” emphasized Nota. the BMW share

was up almost 1 percent on Tuesday.

Overall, the carmaker with just under 2.4 million vehicles of the BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands delivered, a decline of 4.8 percent, as the group already did last week had communicated.

The year was marked by the bottlenecks in the supply of parts, the corona lockdowns in China and the war in the Ukraine been shaped, and this slowed down deliveries, particularly in the first half of the year. By the end of the year, however, the situation had improved: With 651,798 vehicles of the group brands delivered, sales increased by 10.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the major markets, sales figures developed similarly over the year as a whole. The Group experienced the sharpest decline in Europe, at 7.5 percent. Sales in China fell by 6.4 percent and in America by 2.3 percent. There were also exceptions: BMW owed the fact that sales in Asia fell significantly more slowly than in the largest sub-market, China, among other things, to strong sales figures from South Korea.

The group did not name a specific target for this year. Sales director Pieter Nota (58) announced that he would continue on the “course of profitable growth”.

VW: Fewer cars sold overall, but more Stromer

the Volkswagen-Core brand VW passenger cars also sold fewer cars last year. With 4.56 million, there were 6.8 percent fewer vehicles delivered worldwide than in the previous year, as the company announced on Tuesday. VW made progress with all-electric vehicles and achieved a sales increase of 23.6 percent with around 330,000 electric vehicles. The stock rose slightly on Tuesday.

In China, the most important single market, VW was able to more than double the deliveries of its ID model family, which started falteringly, to 143,100 electric cars. For this year, VW continues to expect a volatile supply situation. However, it should gradually improve and thus enable more stable production.

The order backlog is still very high. About 640,000 orders for all types of drive would be in Europe, it said. That is 18 percent more than a year ago. “Despite ongoing supply bottlenecks, we achieved a solid sales target in 2022,” said brand sales manager Imelda LabbĂ©. All in all, city SUVs (SUVs) are still on the rise at VW: Their share of total sales rose by 4 points to 45 percent. In the USA more than four out of five vehicles sold were SUVs.

The Volkswagen Group wants to present its total delivery figures for all vehicle brands for the previous year on Thursday.
