Audi A6 (Type 4G)
Buyers of used cars have a lot to choose from when it comes to the large Audi sedan – especially when it comes to the engine.
Those entitled to a company car who have qualified for the higher budget are happy to choose the BMW 5 Series or Mercedes E-Class, as befits their status. If you don’t feel like kidney or star, you can use rings and the Audi A6. The fourth generation (Type 4G) of the A6 offered between 2011 and 2018 offers used car buyers plenty of choice.
Body and interior: The fourth generation of the A6 was offered as a sedan, station wagon (Avant) and as an all-road version trimmed for off-road. If it can be a little fancier, the technically related hatchback model A7 Sportback comes into play. At almost 5 meters, the Business A6 offers plenty of space for up to five passengers. The luggage compartment of the sedan is large, but offers only a comparatively small opening. After all: 530 to 995 liters fit in.
If you want to transport bulky goods, choose the Avant with a large tailgate. Depending on the seat configuration, the trunk has a capacity of 565 to 1,680 liters. At 535 and 1,390 liters, the luggage compartment of the A7 Sportback lies between the sedan and station wagon.
Inside, the Audi is one of the smartest and highest quality in all body versions that you can get below the luxury class. Good workmanship is part of the standard scope. In 2014, the A6 received a facelift, with modified headlights, grille and bumpers. However, the appearance remained dignified and reserved.

Engines and drive: Diversity is the order of the day: the range of engines extends from four to six to eight cylinders and covers a performance range from 100 kW/136 hp to 445 kW/605 hp in the RS6 Performance. All-wheel drive is usually standard for the six and eight-cylinder models. All-wheel drive is an option for the more powerful four-cylinder models. Diversity is also important when it comes to power transmission options. There are manual transmissions, eight-speed automatic, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (S tronic) and a continuously variable transmission (Multitronic).
The choice of reason falls on the four-cylinder petrol engines. Up until the facelift, a two-liter TFSI with 132 kW/180 hp was the basic petrol engine. It was deleted in 2014, and the entry-level variant was now a 1.8-liter TFSI with 140 kW/190 hp. It was joined by an upgraded version of the two-litre unit that developed 185 kW/252 hp. With the refresher also came the end of the 2.0 liter with 150 kW/204 hp. The four-cylinder need an average of between 5.7 and 8 liters.
Business class
Inside it is mostly classy.
If it is to be less sensible: the superior driving performance of the 3.0 TFSI (220 kW/300 PS to 245 kW/333 PS), S6 (331 kW/450 PS), RS 6 (412 kW/560 PS) and RS6 Performance need it good flow of fuel lines.
If consumption is lower, the diesels come into play. The 2.0 liter four-cylinder TDI with 100 kW/136 hp already offers plenty of torque with 350 Nm, in further expansion stages up to 140 kW/190 hp are available. The three-liter six-cylinder also starts with 190 hp. The top unit is the expansion stage with 240 kW/326 hp and 650 Nm. The standard consumption of the diesel is between 4.2 and 6.7 liters. If you are interested in a diesel, you should make sure that the 2.0 TDI (VW EA 189), in particular, has had the software updated as part of the diesel scandal.
Equipment and safety: Company cars are usually well equipped, which is why there is a large range of lavishly configured A6 models. LED headlights, the business package with navigation and Co., the adaptive cruise control or the air suspension, which ensures special driving comfort, are particularly interesting. Leather, matrix light or connectivity systems were also available. First-time owners also often ordered assistance systems. In the Euro NCAP crash test in 2011, the Ingolstadt vehicle achieved the maximum rating of five stars.

Quality: Company cars are driven a lot, but usually also properly maintained. This obviously also applies to the models of the A6 of the fourth generation, their record in the TÜV main inspections at least suggests this conclusion. Despite the higher mileage compared to all the vehicles examined in the respective age groups, the A6 usually passed the general inspection criteria without any problems.
When examining the chassis, however, one should keep an eye on the axle suspension and axle springs on older models, but so far the results are not in the worrying area.
Conclusion: The Audi A6 (Type 4G) offers a wide range of body variants, engines and equipment. The price range is also large. It ranges from around 8,000 euros for older models to around 70,000 euros for high-performance vehicles such as an RS.
