The supplier Bosch is equipping 15 Apcoa car parks in Germany for autonomous parking processes.
The idea is that you can park your car at a position and it drives itself into the parking garage. You can then pick it up again at another location. You save parking and the parking garage saves space, because doors no longer have to be opened when getting out and so the cars park closer together. This would save 20 percent space.
The car park operator looking to embrace automation is Apcoa. That’s the role model Parking garage at the airport in Stuttgart, where normal operations have already started. Already been here Bosch as a partner on board and with Bosch, Apcoa now wants to continue to upgrade car parks in this way. Specifically, 15 car parks are on the list. In large cities in particular, they want to go ahead with this, for example in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich. Exactly where, however, was left open. And you start with a small number of pitches. First four and then the offer is expanded.
Which cars can use autonomous parking garages? Above all Mercedes Benz S-classes overlevel 3 have, can use this service. But Bosch gives hope that other vehicles can also use it. The technical conditions should be quite low. The car parks will be equipped with the eyes of the system, i.e. cameras.
Due to the legal framework, the concept is still only designed for Germany, because automated vehicles are allowed to drive in this country. With the legal basis, they then want to expand to other countries.
