Dear reader,
The “Feedback period” for the Euro 7 emissions standard expires today. The car manufacturers sounded the alarm again on time. The rules are too strict, cars could become unaffordable. The proud and currently highly profitable industry feels enslaved.
But politics is also in a dilemma. If the EU stands firm, it will have to explain why it has not yet created the right framework conditions for phasing out combustion engines from 2035. On the other hand, if she gives in, she is threatened with the image of an extended arm of the car lobby.
Both sides need a win. A cryptic solution with back doors would not be a surprise.
