BMW and Valeo develop valet parking with level 4

The manufacturer BMW and the supplier Valeo are jointly developing automated parking at Level 4.

bmw and Valeo have been cooperation partners for a long time. So far, this has affected the ADAS domain controllers, the sensors and the software. This partnership is now being expanded. Together they want to develop fully autonomous parking, for which they rely on vehicles from Level 4 set. Also the main competitor Mercedes Benz plans such infrastructure-based services, along with Bosch and apcoa.

The cooperation between BMW and Valeo develops software based on the stacks for autonomous parking, which came onto the market with the BMW iX 2021. The new developments are to be expanded to include a powerful computer platform. That’s where the algorithms should work. BMW is trying to consolidate its position in the field of autonomous driving.

The concept of valet parking is not new. You drive your vehicle to a transfer point, the drop-off zone, and the car parks itself. The vehicle is then called again via an app so that the drivers do not have to park themselves. This saves time and space in the parking garage, as the autonomous vehicles can be placed closer together. The time can also be used for a car wash.

A distinction is made between two forms: the first type uses the sensors in the car, the second type uses the sensors in the infrastructure. BMW and Valeo are about both forms.
