Dear reader,
Volker Wissing (52) does not want to go down in history as the transport minister who put an end to a German industrial heritage, the internal combustion engine. The EU has agreed on an end for new cars with combustion engines from 2035, the final decision next week was considered a formality. But now Wissing threatens: E-fuels or objection!
The sense or nonsense of climate-neutral fuels has been debated for years. One thing is clear: in the foreseeable future there will be so little of it that a tankful of e-fuels will remain almost unaffordable.
The supposed miracle fuel would be in better hands in airplanes, ships and – if there is anything left – in existing cars than in new cars. It is not for nothing that almost all car manufacturers are converting their production to electric cars.
