As a matter of course, Peter Rawlinson is building the new Tesla with the US company Lucid Motors, at least. The “very best electric car in the world” is the claim. Gone are the days when Lucid reached $90 billion in market value with just a few dozen vehicles made. Things are less rosy behind the scenes. The production of luxury cars stutters, demand falls, as does the share price. And now, according to our research, the three board members who were supposed to bring auto expertise there like nobody else are running away from Rawlinson. At the same time, the power of the main investor Saudi Arabia is likely to continue to increase. But read for yourself.
With the 9,000 euro environmental bonus for e-cars, you could – well: half-silk – do business. You could pocket the massive government subsidies and then resell the car abroad for a profit. Apparently, 2022 was a real business model. According to the Center of Automotive Management, a whopping 16 percent of the e-cars newly registered in Germany in 2022 were “missing” in the vehicle stock at the end of the year. The state should do that 380 million euros
have tasted. After all, politicians have now taken countermeasures; instead of half a year, you now have to keep an e-car for a whole year to get the bonus.
Deepdrive of the week: fear of empty buses
At the beginning of the corona pandemic, lockdowns also drove people out of buses. There are no longer any restrictions, but pessimism still prevails in the bus industry. To the Federal Association of Bus Companies
According to this, only 42 percent of the companies assume that they will be able to reach their pre-crisis level again.
Carousel of the week
The Audi A4 has been around since 1994 and is considered the cliché model for sales representatives. This will soon be over – at least as a combustion engine. With the next (and final) model generation, Audi will Also rename A4 to A5
, the A6 should then be called the A7. Car quartet professionals know: A5 and A7 already exist. Audi no longer wants to continue selling those limousines. Incidentally, the 4 and the 6 will not disappear at Audi: even numbers will be reserved for electric cars there in the future.
I wish you a week without confusion.
Sincerely yours, Christoph Seyerlein
