The carmaker bmw sold slightly fewer vehicles in the first quarter than in the same period last year, but expects better numbers over the course of the year. From January to March, the BMW Group delivered 588,138 units, 1.5 percent fewer vehicles than in the first quarter of 2022, the group announced on Tuesday.
The core BMW brand almost matched the previous year’s level with almost 518,000 cars. A drop in sales in Europe and China there was strong growth in the USA across from. “The BMW Group is on course to achieve slight growth in 2023 as a whole,” said sales manager Pieter Nota (58). In the first three months of the year, BMW increased sales of electric cars across all brands by 83 percent to 64,647 units. With almost 56,000 cars, the BMW brand sold more than twice as many electric cars as in the same quarter of the previous year.
In the first quarter, the BMW Group managed to “maintain a dynamic pace in ramping up electromobility,” said Nota. The automobile manufacturer is planning further significant growth for the coming years: in 2024 every fifth new car in the group should be fully electric, in 2025 every fourth and in 2026 every third.
