BMW hasn’t really arrived in the age of electricity yet. In 2022, just ten percent of sales were purely electric cars. This is set to change in 2025 with the introduction of the “New Class”: drive, cockpit, electronics and design will be redeveloped.
For example, the two-part radiator grille, which is a defining feature, is significantly smaller than that of current series. “The speed of change in the BMW model range is greater than ever,” says chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk. Before 2030, half of sales should consist of electric cars, primarily from the “new class”.
A prototype of the new model is to be presented in September at the leading trade fair IAA Mobility. The Handelsblatt was able to see exclusive details of the new sedan. One thing is clear: with the MMA platform announced for next year by Mercedes and the revised Model 3 by Tesla, there will be fierce competition.
