The VolkswagenGroup was again able to sell more cars in May than a year ago. According to company information on Friday, the brands of the largest European vehicle group delivered 763,800 cars worldwide in the spring month. This is 16 percent more than in May 2022.
VW was thus able to continue the trend towards a more solid sales development. Supply bottlenecks for electronic components, economic risks and long-term effects of the corona crisis had slowed down business significantly up until the winter. In April, however, the increase was almost 40 percent again.
Among other things, the most important car market recovered China according to the latest company figures: In May, the VW brands handed over 260,200 (plus 11.9 percent) new vehicles to customers in the People’s Republic. In the home region of Western Europe and in North America, things went better than in the previous year, with sales increasing by 21.6 and 9.2 percent respectively, as did Central and Eastern Europe (plus 30.9 percent). South America, on the other hand, went down (minus 4.8 percent).
Among the individual group subsidiaries, about Porsche well, the increase in deliveries was 21.9 percent. Skoda also developed strongly (34.8 percent). The core brand VW passenger cars, for which a new efficiency program is planned, achieved a sales increase of 10.5 percent in May. Audi reached plus 19.9 percent. The month was weaker for the luxury offshoots Lamborghini and Bentley, whose deliveries slipped by 5.5 percent.
