The Erwin Hymer Group has its headquarters in Bad Waldsee. Founded in 1957, the company has been a subsidiary of Thor Industries, a listed American mobile home manufacturer based in Indiana, for several years. The Erwin Hymer Group is one of the largest manufacturers of mobile homes and caravans in Europe. A total of 24 brands belong to the group of companies: in addition to Hymer, there are also Dethleffs, Niessmann + Bischoff, Crosscamp, Bürstner and Buccaneer.
According to its own statements, the company had sales of around 3.6 billion euros in 2021, produced 60,000 vehicles and employed 8,700 people. The market share in Europe was 23 percent for mobile homes and campers, while the share for trailers was 18 percent. Thor Industries closes its fiscal year at the end of July. Most recently, the listed company announced a significant drop in sales for the third quarter. Accordingly, net sales fell by 37.1 percent to $ 2.93 billion compared to the record quarter a year earlier. Thor’s largest majority owner is founder Wade Thompson.
