From July 1 onwards, every Saturday, transport technicians will hold mock trials of the nine-metre electric vehicles (EVs) that are to be run by KTC in Panaji under Smart City.
The EVs are set to replace the traditional bus transportation system in Panaji and its peripheries, and will map routes, gauge bottlenecks and analyse solutions to operate these vehicles in the city.
“The trial run will comprise technicians travelling as mock passengers to gauge the issues related to operating through the city,” director of transport Rajan Satardekar said.
They will also test the turning radius of the vehicles at several points in the city. A check on whether the ITMS app that displays the EVs arrival time corresponds with the timing of the respective bus shelter will also be taken up.
“Based on the route, their ability to manoeuvrer through that route and the time taken, they must derive a tentative schedule. The trials will be conducted every Saturday until it is implemented,” Satardekar said.
Tentatively, the EV buses will be operational for the public from August onwards.
TOI had reported in May that 20 new nine-metre EV buses have been flagged-off and a total of 36 bus shelters are being erected in Panaji.
